Safety First is proud to be licensed by the State of New Jersey to administer the knowledge test to 16 -year-old students. A 16 year old, by law, cannot appear at the MVC on their own, for the knowledge test. Please be aware if a 16 year old takes their knowledge with Safety First, they are required to do the 6-hour program, with Safety First, per New Jersey State law.
Written tests are administered by appointment only.

The Vision Test:
The state requires all permit holders to take a vision test to determine if the use of corrective lenses is required while driving. For your convivence we handle this process over the course of your 6 hour program.
16 Year Old Permit Program
The Law:
Anyone interested in getting a learner’s permit at the age of 16 must take a six hour behind the wheel program, (mandated by The State Of New Jersey), with a licensed (by The State Of New Jersey) driving school.
The Safety First Program:
The program at Safety First Driving School consists of: three two hour lessons of behind the wheel instruction, or two three hour lessons. It also includes taking care of all the required MVC work necessary for a 16-year-old to obtain their learner’s permit. You simply supply us the proper documentation.
Note: 16-year-old students are not required to produce the full six points of identification.
The 6-Hours Must Include: (Required by NJ MVC)
-Vehicle orientation -Brake control
-Hand over hand steering -Right and left turns
-Right of way -Reverse driving
-K-turn and U-turn -Curves
-Lane changing -Parallel parking
-Highway driving -Right and left turns in a business district

Adult Learner Program (17 and up)
Adult Classes
The State of New Jersey requires every new driver to purchase a learner’s permit, pass a vision and knowledge test. The permit will not be valid for driving until both the knowledge and vision tests are passed, and a silver decal is put on the back of the permit. Once all the necessary MVC procedures are complete will you be eligible to start driving.
Each class is two hours long, and includes door-to-door service. Adult learners are not required to take a minimum or maximum number of lessons. Lesson can be tailored to each individuates needs.

Refresher Courses
For individuals who already have their license or permit we offer 2 hour sessions tailored to your needs.
If there is a specific skill you feel you need help with our knowledgeable instructors are ready to help.
Refresher courses are also a valuable tool to those who have not driven in a long while.

Road Test Service
Safety First offers a service where you can use our vehicle the day of your actual behind the wheel test at the MVC.
The road test service includes a review lesson, the use of the vehicle for the test, and *IF possible, help the applicant process their driver’s license. During their review lesson the instructor will cover parallel parking, k-turns, reverse driving, along with basic driving skills.
*Licensing services only offered at MVC locations with special windows for new drivers.
Please also remember to bring your 6 points of ID.
